You’ve grown a business by selling what you know, whether that’s through teaching, coaching, creating, or building digital products. And you want to be here for the long haul using your knowledge and your skills to help change people’s lives.
As a knowledge work entrepreneur, you have a unique opportunity to leverage an online business. With your mind and your experience, you can easily build communities, apps, courses, and more. But the online market is changing. Social media as we know it may soon be a thing of the past. Online ads are no longer a reliable source of cheap leads. And more people than ever have the exact same idea as you: to make their money and their impact through what they know.
As successful as you are now, you can’t help but ask yourself: is this it?
You also wonder what role business has to play in our collective future. Can it be a force for good? How can we start changing the way we do business now, claiming our role in shaping the trajectory of the online business world?
That’s why I’ve created Think Tank, the only community designed specifically to help knowledge work entrepreneurs like you access the most effective product and sales strategies today, while creating the online business industry of tomorrow.
You really don’t need another sales and marketing program teaching you someone’s proprietary five-step scaling system. You don’t need to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a coach. You don’t need to learn algorithm hacks. You definitely don’t need someone to tell you to just visualize your inevitable success and let the worries fall away.
You are already an expert. You have great clients. You know how to sell. Can you improve? Sure. And you will. Could you use support in taking action? Definitely. You’re only human! But more than new information, you need context. More than courses (though we have those!), you need community. More than chasing more, you need to focus more.
You need to learn how to understand what you value, and to infuse that into everything you make. You need to figure out what you actually desire from your business—and your life—to make sure you’re building the path that will lead you there, and not to someone else’s idea of success. And you need to keep your eye on the future, because your work is too important to get left behind.
I know you’re smart enough to figure this all out. You can google! But you’re tired, you’re busy, and you want to get there faster than you can on your own.
You want to build a legacy with your work, and you’re ready to push beyond the status quo to craft something that will last.
You’re ready for Think Tank.
Think Tank is a community of founders, creators, researchers, and curious minds creating the future of online business. It’s a mastermind, a learning community, and a—well—think tank: a place where we question, grow, and build together.
This is a curated experience, where the top topics of the day are analyzed, where the strategies that work are shared, where the future of online knowledge-driven business is created.
Through workshops, experiments, lectures, feedback, and more you will not only bring your business to the next level, but develop a clear idea of what that level even is for you, and situate your work within the wider context of our swiftly changing world.
Think Tank is a membership community where we can invest in the relationships, projects, and curiosity that will help you grow the online knowledge business you’ve been dreaming of.
As you already know, growing a business is not one-and-done. It’s a process that requires experimentation, feedback, a place to land when it all goes wrong, and a place to celebrate when it all goes right. That’s why Think Tank is an ongoing membership: we’re not going to abandon you at some arbitrary date and hope for the best.
When you join Think Tank, you’ll enter an ecosystem designed to support your growth in four primary categories:
Build effective courses, programs, and products rooted in what you know to help your customers activate their potential
Intentionally grow your audience and your influence with human-driven marketing that breaks out of algorithmic limitations
Sustainably increase revenue and update sales systems so you can enjoy your life in—and out—of your business
Actively create the industry (and world!) you want to work in by honoring your values and consciously challenging the status quo
I’ve worked online for seven years, have served over 1,000 clients in my courses and memberships, and impacted tens of thousands more as a content creator.
And the old way of doing things isn’t working.
Facebook ads are no longer cheap and guaranteed, driving up acquisition costs. Social media as we know it is in its death throes, and may have only a few years left (or maybe months with Twitter, lol). Algorithmic discovery is flattening creativity, leading to copycat businesses and a deeply concerning stagnation in innovation. SaaS have given us powerful scalability tools, but without a praxis of application, are leading to alienation and burnout.
I believe the future of work is, for many of us, online and knowledge-based. But as the explosion of so-called AI chatbots and the failure of Silicon Valley Bank have shown us, that future is anything but fixed.
Knowledge-based businesses like yours need to know what’s working now to reach their ideal customers and sell effectively. But they also need to start designing the future, which can only be done through wrestling with great questions, and the space to actually ask them.
That’s why I’ve founded Think Tank. We need to learn not only how to build sustainable and scalable businesses now, but also how to unlearn our assumptions about work, critique their origins, and build the future we desire.
Your business is your legacy. Think Tank is the community with the practical and existential resources to help you build it.
Think Tank is your ticket to workshops and courses taught by Sarah and guest experts on a variety of topics pertinent to knowledge work entrepreneurship. Initial programming may include knowledge product design, online course pedagogy, low-risk offer testing, writing founder bios that convert, integrative promotion planning, and more. These programs will grow our educational library, creating more value over time that as a founding member you can continue to access at your special low rate.
Live events are at the core of Think Tank. We know that, even in the age of Zoom fatigue, connecting across the globe to share ideas and support each other is pivotal in online business growth. Your membership includes office hours with Sarah, co-working calls, lectures from guest experts, and more. You’ll even have opportunities to present things that you’re excited about so you can test new ideas or just nerd out with folks who get it.
It’s hard to break out of the echo chamber of your own mind. In Think Tank, you’ll be surrounded by other curious and creative deep thinkers who can share their knowledge and benefit from yours. Peer support as well as the opportunity for feedback from Sarah and guest experts will keep you on track and help you get the answers you need to get back into action in your business. Our community is fully integrated with our educational offerings on a private platform, so you can have a distraction-free way to learn and connect.
Part of Think Tank is thinking together. That means sharing what’s working, what’s not, and what we’re using to get results. Your community has a growing resource library of templates, strategies, experiments, and more curated by you, the members. Think Tank also has “rabbit holes,” a list of the media related to knowledge work entrepreneurship that’s actually worth consuming, and live videos and essays from Sarah on the topics of the day.
Think Tank is a new community, which means that as a Founding Member you get the opportunity to be in on the ground floor and help shape Think Tank for the years to come. Founding Membership has its perks, including the lowest rate ever for membership which you’ll keep as long as your account remains in good standing.
Because Think Tank is new, there may be challenges along the way as we figure out the best way to support Founding Members and grow this community. But, as any entrepreneur knows, that’s part of the fun.
I have a plan for our workshops and experts. I have lots of ideas for the kind of support I think you need. But I won’t know for sure until you show up. So that means Think Tank is actively evolving, and will be responsive to you as a Founding Member.
I’m not new to online education communities, though, and have served over 1,000 business owners already in other programs. So while Think Tank is opening in a beta format, meaning it is evolving rapidly and does not yet have all of the features and benefits that I’ve planned, I have an excellent track record and am excited to bring my years of experience to you as a Founding Member.
Think Tank has a distinct perspective: we believe that you need more than just growth hacks and product-market fit to create a sustainable, future-proof online knowledge business. Our program model is built on three foundations that are required to face the challenges of the rapidly changing market.
It’s not enough to just copy a strategy you see from someone else, or to keep running the same old launches you’ve always done. The market is changing, and while we never chase fads for the sake of it, you deserve simple and effective sales and marketing strategies, systems, and more that are designed to adapt to the future rather than lock you in to the past.
Here’s the thing: deep questions will actually help you grow a more successful business. If you don’t know what you believe or what you desire, you can’t make it happen. If you don’t understand the historical and structural influences on your business, you can’t challenge them. You must understand the why behind the how in order to deconstruct the business status quo and grow a more sustainable business that truly represents you and your values.
Ah yes, the illusive promise of the modern internet: actual community. But something we do need in order to grow. At your level of business, it’s critical to be surrounded by other experts who understand the challenges of trying to be true to yourself as your business scales. Without that, you’re likely to fall back on your old way of doing things, even when they prevent you from living the life you desire and helping your customers as powerfully as they deserve.
You have big dreams, but that doesn’t mean you want to get lost in a big program. Most online communities are designed for thousands of members. I ran one of them! This style of program can be a great fit for some kinds of learning, but makes it challenging to build culture and explore the deep questions that have brought you to this page.
Think Tank has been consciously designed to stay small, with a cap of 200 active members. This cap means that, once we hit 200 members, new members will only be invited once an active member chooses not to renew.
Why 200? In my experience that’s enough people for a variety of connections to grow and experience to be shared, but not so much that it’s impossible to know a bit about everyone you’re engaging with. And for me as a facilitator, I found that over 200 was when I started to feel disengaged, like I had lost the humanity in my work.
I’m also choosing a cap because it aligns with my values. After years of chasing a certain kind of growth that I didn’t even want but was expected of me and required based on the model I had chosen, I finally realized that my business did not support the depth of work and relationship I craved. The cap lets me focus more on serving you and less on selling.
(h/t to Jay Clouse, who is the first person I saw use a cap on a membership. It opened up a new possibility for me that helped me to better align my business with my values.)
Probably not. If you’ve had a business before and are making something new, sure. But the fundamentals of starting a business are not covered in Think Tank. This community is for founders and subject-matter experts who already know what they do and how they do it.
Maybe! The people who will get the most out of this are folks who have decision-making power in their organization, especially those in growth or product positions. The lectures and workshops cover a wide range of topics, and if you’re eager to participate in building the future of online work, then you’re welcome.
Lurkers are certainly welcome, but Think Tank is a community program. Folks who engage, share, ask questions, and offer their own expertise will build the strongest relationships, get the best feedback, and learn the most inside of Think Tank. It’s ok to be shy! But inside Think Tank, you’ll have the opportunity to build your confidence in engaging with your colleagues, and since it’s online, you can always participate when it feels best for you.
Probably not. This is not private coaching or a small group program. We have other offers that are more intimate and that will be available to Think Tank members, but this program is communal. That’s it’s power, actually: after leading dozens of cohorts and courses, I’ve seen that a group experience helps most people get better results. There is built-in accountability and mirroring that accelerators the business growth process.
